Data Driven Decisions, making sense of imagination land

Speakers:

Imagine: You are in a field, data all around you, ever growing.
And you get the task of being informed. How could anyone ever do this?
Meet data driven decisions, a set of visually pleasing utilities that help you get insight and meaning.

This talk will highlight a few of them and how they can be applied within Drupal.

In order to have effective visualisation for decisions a scope is needed that is based on the vision statement of the business that can be captured in Drupal logic.

Data Extraction
Most data is not in open store, it needs to be imported, crafted, transformed or otherwise converted .

Data selection
A point of note is that your decision is only as good as your (data) source and the selection made. Wrong selection (whether too much, too little or simple the wrong set) can be disastrous.

Data Retention
In order to evaluate decisions its is of utmost importance to store the sets, before and after selection.

Data Visualisation:

  • Graphs and spreadsheets.
  • Mapping Data (with layer, like onions / ogres have)

Infrastructure:

  • Decision Support Systems [DSS] and expert systems.
  • Business Intelligence [BI], open source flavour.

Then just take the decision, and track back for continuous improvement:
example with drush.
(aka: drush make decision-tree.make)
