Drupal on Docker

Speakers:

Docker is a project which makes Linux containers easier to use. Containers are a light-weight alternative to virtual machines, and can be created, destroyed and packaged much more quickly, allowing for many new deployment and testing workflows. Docker has recently hit version 1.0, and is in use at many large companies, most notably Google.

This talk will explain:

  • What Linux Containers are
  • What Docker brings to the party
  • How to use Docker for packaging and deploying Drupal
  • When and why Docker is appropriate

All concepts will be explained from scratch and only basic Drupal deployment knowledge is assumed. Central to the talk will be a worked-through example of building and deploying containers for Drupal, and code samples and instructions will be made available. This talk should be suitable for people who have heard of "this Docker thing" but don't know much about it, or even those who have no idea what Docker is.

About the speaker:

Rob Knight is Technical Lead with Fluxus, has been a Drupal developer for over 8 years and has written blog posts and magazine articles about the use of Drupal with Docker.
