At Drupalcon Austin I talked about Content Strategy and Drupal Site Building with the aim of introducing the touchpoints between the two disciplines. As discussed in Austin, Content Strategy and Drupal Site Building are closely related as site builders are the architects that will build the tools that will allow a content strategy to be practically realized.
In this session, I would like to move beyond the basic issues of how to construct content types, choose fields and define vocabularies by looking at some of the very real challenges that stretch Drupal (and any CMSs) capabilities. This session is targeted to experienced Drupal Site Builders and Content Strategists, aiming to provide some ideas about how to deal with some of the more demanding issues surrounding the implementation of complex content strategies.
Through real-life site examples based on our experience with clients such as Tripadvisor, Indiana University Libraries and ITALY Magazine, we will discuss:
- Ensuring consistency both with regards to the use of vocabularies and the use of common organizational terminology across the site.
- Handling an editorial calendar within Drupal and the distribution of content on social media. We will compare some of the existing services to do this (Hootsuite, Buffer) and share some of the Drupal-specific implementations we have done for them.
- Portability of content: Migrating and evolving content as content strategy demands evolve, while providing continuity.
- Findability of content (both for SEO and on-site search) and content curation.
- Dealing with internationalization and automated translation using professional services.
