The goal of the project was to migrate a multisite solution for a media and broadcasting company onto a Drupal platform. This migration had to provide capabilities for advanced content management. One of the key challenges of the project was to provide the ability to customize the page structure for different brands.
The key features of the implemented solution are:
• Multisite Drupal-based solution with a different look-and-feel for a dozen brands
• Widget-like functionality to customize your experience
• Deep integration with MPX/the Platform - automatic content creation and linking
• Responsive design with the support of 10 mobile devices
• Universal filtering functionality for admins and site visitors
• Custom modules that are reusable on other related projects
• Predictive search based on SOLR
• Customized logging system
This project has been accomplished using Scrum methodology with such artifacts as Stand-Ups, Demonstrations, Retrospectives, Planning, Backlog, etc. A team of 17 people (Drupal developers, Drupal themers, functional testers, automation testers, scrum master, project manager) at 3 different locations with a maximum time difference of 8 hours worked about 11 months on this project. This project started with the Discovery Phase, followed by Development Iterations and one-by-one Site Releases.
Environment: Drupal 7, Acquia Cloud, Apache SOLR, MPX, Adobe Pass, Views, Views Bulk Operations, Views Export, Media, i18n, Features + Strongarm, Workbench, Dates, CTools, OAuth, Facebook API
We are happy to share our learnings from this project:
• How important is the role of a leader?
• Why have we dropped the Single Page Application approach?
• How can testing automation save money and time?
• How do you test on multiple platforms effectively?
