Many people are familiar with Commerce Kickstart -- it is a powerful and easy way to get started with Drupal Commerce on new projects. But the real power of Drupal Commerce lies in it's ability to be enabled on any existing Drupal 7 site. However, getting to the final destination of a Commerce-enabled site can be overwhelming if you've never done it before. And after coming to this Lab, you'll walk away with knowledge and confidence to start adding Commerce to existing sites in your daily work.
This session is primarily aimed toward site-builders and developers who have a good handle on configuring Drupal and using the administrative interface but have little or no experience with Drupal Commerce. You'll need to know drush to set up the demo site, though the demo will use the backend to enable and configure modules. A working knowledge of Rules is suggested, but not required.
By the end of the lab, our Drupal Book site, Bookpal will be ready to take and handle orders, manage inventory, calculate shipping & taxes, and utilize coupons. In this lab, we'll cover:
- Adding & Configuring Commerce Core
- Configuration of Shipping & Taxes
- Customization of the backend using panels and/or views
- Configuring payments
- Using the stock module to manage inventory
- Internationalization of products
The format of the lab will be a follow-along walkthrough. You'll be provided a link to download a drush archive of the starting site before the beginning of the lab. However, even if you don't follow along, you'll learn a bunch!
